The scripts are rolling in. I found a cool dozen in my inbox within 4 hours of posting yesterday’s Penguin Shell. They’re all very interesting to pore through and point out the creativity of Linux users. Remember, we’re covering shell scripting the week of February 4 - a series that will be written by users. If you’ve got a killer shell script you’d like to share for possible publication, go ahead - submit it.
The webcam will be down for a few days. My time with a networked environment at home was, in fact, short-lived. The laptop that made the networking possible was returned to my former employer yesterday afternoon. Though we’d worked out an equitable deal, it just seemed that the debt was one I didn’t, in the end, feel comfortable incurring on behalf of my company. How does that all tie into the webcam? Well, I haven’t yet been able to find a solution for my old IBM PCCam Pro in Linux. It’s probably there somehere - I just haven’t found it yet. I’m doing the research now to see if it’s even possible to use this cam in Linux. If so, I should have the webcam back up in the next few days. If not, I’m likely to re-install a dual-boot system. So, it looks like the current camshot is the last and only of a networked Steidler-Dennison home.
One final note. You’ve undoubtedly noticed some “slippage” in the delivery of Penguin Shell. That stems, in part, from a phrase used earlier in the PenguinReport - former employer. Really, it says a lot about how easy a routine can be to maintain when everything is just cruising along. Having left the former employer a few weeks ago, two things happened - a) my cozy routine was crushed and b) the focus of many of my waking hours has changed dramatically. I’m finally getting my feet back and working my way into a new routine. You’re likely to receive two issues of Penguin Shell in the next 24 hours, followed, hopefully, by a return to a regular delivery schedule. Though it’s probably not necessary, I do want to thank you all for your patience.
And the Shell rolls on …
