Ending the Week

It’s the end of another week. For me, it’s been a week of readjusting to working in the shop, of crating telescopes for delivery and installation in Spain in January, and of satisfaction and surprise at the comments and tips you’ve sent. There are an ever-growing number of “you”s. Penguin Shell will officially cross the 10,000 subscriber mark sometime early next week.
While we’ve started to cross into some headier topics (procmail, for example, is definitely not for lightweights!), I want to re-emphasize that Penguin Shell is and will remain focused on new Linux users. If we jump a bit beyond your current capabilities, hold on, read on and store it all away. There *is* a logic to the progression and it’s a logic that’s been determined, for the most part, by your feedback. My experience with Linux has been that with enough hands-on use, the little pixels start to take on a sharp focus. And after all, beautiful pictures are made of little pixels.
Along those lines, I’m going to spend some time over the holiday weekend pulling together a collection of the tips and tricks we’ve included in the first two months of Penguin Shell. These will be searchable and downloadable in a printer-friendly format, as has been suggested by readers. For your technical interest, this archive will probably rely on PHP and MySQL, both of which are simply great applications for Linux. Don’t expect it to be finished next week - just know that I’m starting the design and coding process this weekend. If you have suggestions for the archive, by all means, let me know.
In the meantime, have a great weekend.
