As if I didn’t have enough going on. I’ve recently been rolling through a very nice crop of blogs and am seriously considering jumping back into the fray. Without banging my drum too loudly, I have to say that I kept various online journals as far back as 1997. In fact, I had two online collaborative writing projects that fared reasonably well, short of my own eventual burnout. Both are gone and, as far as I know, unarchived. But some of the contributors remain on the web, still alive and fresh. Perhaps my favorite was “World Year”, a project that paired writers from countries with a history of conflict with writers from countries with, well, less overt conflict. With my recent travels, my interest in these contrasts has been re-sparked. And with today’s blogging tools, time and maintenance is less of an issue than ever. What do you think? Perhaps a collaborative blog of new Linux user experiences?
In an unrelated note, I’ve been listening lately to The Linux Show, a weekly webcast produced by GeekCast.com. While my clear favorite is still that of the Chief Gnome, The Linux Show is truly a webcast after my own heart. There are lots of tips interspersed with listener questions and feedback. It’s a real audio geek fest.
One more final random note. The Lockergnome news groups are once again alive and kicking. I’ve started dropping in to see if I can be useful in lockergnome.os.linux.hardware and lockergnome.os.linux.software. In the process, I’ve stumbled across some nice comments on Penguin Shell. Regardless, these groups are spam-free and probably the most useful, least condescending groups you’re going to find anywhere. With lots of useful and experienced info sharing, they’re definitely worth a look.
Now, it’s onward, into the heart of the Penguin Shell …
