Ever since I got my Mac I have been thinking about putting together some sort of podcast or streaming radio station. I began researching the software I would need to accomplish this task without spending a fortune. I wanted a program that had a ton of features for a reasonable price. I found a lot of different programs that could complete the task but they were either very expensive or free, I was looking for something in the middle.

After downloading a trying several free programs I just was not satisfied with the results. I soon discovered a program called Nicecast. Nicecast is a streamers dream in my opinion. Nicecast is developed by a company called Rogue Amoeba Software LLC, based in the US but with offices worldwide. They develop software specifically for Mac OS X and do a fine job.

By setting up a Nicecast stream broadcasting iTunes, you can listen to your music from anywhere in the world, on a Mac, a PC, or even a Linux machine. All you need is a streaming MP3 player and you’ll be grooving to your favorites all the time.

You can use an audio player like iTunes to DJ hour after hour of your favorite music or just to let your friends hear that new song you’ve been working on. The included VoiceOver effect lets you insert radio-style commentary, right between songs.

Radio on your Macintosh has never been this easy or this much fun. Broadcast events live or host a call-in show - anything you can plug into your Mac can also be broadcast out.
