Windows on a Mac?

After toying around inside of Mac OS X Leopard I wanted to test its limits. I installed VMWare Fusion and created a VM for Windows XP Professional. The amazing thing is that it only took 15-20 minutes to install XP from strat to finish. I figured something was wrong right from the start because of the short install times.

I have used virtual machines before, running WINE in linux and VMWare in Windows XP Professional. I was not very impressed with WINE at all, great open source software but not anywhere near the quality of VMWare. VMWare on the other hand was decent on my Windows XP box. I was able to install and run both linux builds and a test run at OS X Tiger. They did not run great but they ran. Now seeing Windows running inside VMWare Fusion on my Macbook running Leopard, I am very impressed.

Now I am running a stock Macbook, no upgrades yet. Its got an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1 gb of RAM, an 80 gb hard drive, and OS X Leopard with the latest updates. I must say that I am running Windows updates as I right this and do see a little slow done but not entirely noticable. After I upgrade to 4gb of RAM I expect there to be no slow down at all.

Once again, I am impressed with both Apple and VMWare.  Great job to both companies!
