Hundreds of Millions (More) Just Went to Pakistan

Next time you have to decide if you can afford a luxury (or a necessity), or healthcare, remember that hundreds of millions of dollars just magically flew our coop and landed in Pakistan. This was just the most recent spate of hundreds of million dollar bundles that have gone to Pakistan.
But we didn’t send just piles of cash, we backed it up with arms and equipment.
Gee, this puts the healthcare debate into a different light, doesn’t it?
Where is the outrage?
No, seriously.
No money for anything except keeping the time-honored military-industrial complex humming. Ho hum. Business as usual. Nothing to see here. There are playoff games on tv and we have cheap American beer. Thank God we haven’t outsourced cheap beer.

Peripherally, what in the world are we getting for our money, aside from demands for more? We’re like Charlie Brown and Lucy. “Kick the ball, Charlie Brown…”
Pakistan is playing us like a warped violin.

I hate to take the devil’s advocate position, so I won’t. However, those who do say that ‘we are nation building so that we can keep those Pakistani nukes in the hands of the (gasp) elected government.
I am all for cutting them off completely, and bringing the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan - this is one area in which I am very disappointed in the President’s performance.
It seems to me we could station the troops ten or so deep at all entrances to the U.S. and have our safety, while keeping more of our own alive - either that or like randy Newman used to say (in song) Let’s Drop the Big One!

I love “Political Science”. Randy showed a rare grasp of world dynamics. I’m going to put him in my cabinet when I’m president.
You’re dead right on the troops, but that’s not the plan.
If we could somehow convince Americans that Mexico is a `threat’, we’d have them lined up in hours.
Somehow I don’t see planes flying into buildings being blamed on Mexicans. Blaming it on the current crew strains credulity.

Recent history in Pakistan is similar to events in Iran during the rule of the Shah. Both leaderships were strongly backed by the US, and were involved in widespread repression or attacks on their own people. Both regimes followed policies that were deeply unpopular domestically. In Iran, this led the revolution of 1979 which created an Islamic Republic. Could something similar happen in Pakistan?
