Vitamin D Security: Not Just for Geeks

Like any good computer geek, I listen to podcasts to and from work to catch up and learn something. I have been listening to Security Now pretty much since its inception (they just started their fifth year). Security Now is manned by the ever-vigilant Steve Gibson (Gibson Research) and Leo LaPorte (Twit TV, etc).
Gibson Research is the company that gave us the excellent free Shields Up utility to test your firewall in both directions, as well as Spin Rite, a very effective data recovery/drive maintenance program (I purchased a copy a while back and make good use of it). Steve is the definition of geek.
Leo LaPorte has his hands (and face) in all sorts of media: audio/video/computer, from amateur radio to computers. He’s a pretty nice guy (in spite of using Macs) and a great host.
Security Now is a weekly podcast that’s for every one of us, from Mac/linux/Windows users to security geeks. They go over everything in a format that all of us can understand. If there are security breaches or items of interest, Steve and Leo are on them, bringing them to us so we can make better decisions.
Steve recently immersed himself in the study of Vitamin D (not really a vitamin) and broke with tradition to produce a Security Now podcast not about security. He did the homework so you don’t have to: just download episode 209 and give it a listen. Very interesting information about Vitamin D, from history to his personal usage.
While you’re downloading, check out GRC’s offerings (free and commercial) and listen to a few security-related episodes of the podcast. I promise you’ll be enlightened.

During each podcast, they read user email. Every fourth podcast is totally dedicated to user questions. Emails typically thank the hosts for their efforts and ask a question.
I’d like to thank Steve and Leo for sharing their knowledge - no questions asked.

Let me guess. Steve got kidney stones and he wants to warn all of us about the danger of kidney stones. Or is this about the Vitamin D additive conspiracy?
I think I’ll skip the steve hyperbole.
Step back from the computer, Steve. Go outside for at least 15 minutes a day during daylight hours. Make sure you have some fat in your diet and put some mushrooms in your salad. Do some work that requires lifting more than 3 lbs. See your doctor about a possible need for thyroid medication.

You might want to give it at least a partial listen. No hyperbole in the parts I heard. He does get outside.
