Windows 7 Will Let Microsoft (and Others) Track Your Every Move

In its blind hurry to kiss Microsoft’s ass, the Blogosphere seems to have missed this tiny little story.
Although disabled by default, the Win 7 geo-tracking features offer very little user control and will in fact allow Microsoft (and others) to track your every move.
Now let’s think about this. Microsoft would never do this, would they? Simply because the capability is built-in does not mean it will be used, right?
Per Microsoft itself, the reason Win 7 doesn’t offer much control: The reason, Microsoft officials say, is that Windows doesn’t have a reliable means of determining that an application is what it says it is, so any attempt to limit the location to a specific application would be easily spoofable.
Yes, folks, Microsoft has done it to you again. But I know you: you will respond wisely, and automatically line up to purchase whatever turds Microsoft offers to us, their paying beta testers.

Let’s all trust Microsoft. And our governments. They would never do anything to hurt us, right?

I do know that, but have to have it, on at least one machine, as I have to work on machines that will use it.
You’re right on the history, but then unless you’re very paranoid, it should not matter.
I’ve been thinking about this lately, a lot. People like me use Windows because they have to, but I also use Linux less than I otherwise would because I don’t like the way it is set up, and I don’t have the patience to change it (my fault) .
But also I am tiring of stupid names for programs, designed by people who think it is ‘cute’ to have everything start with a ‘K’. Don’t we have enough of that stupidity on television with the sisters Kardashian?
The more I think about it, the more I know I liked using DOS programs, with their different interfaces, and DesqView/X to do the multitasking. But then we’re not in 1995 anymore.
I really wish I had the time and talent to make my own OS, it would be much nicer.

That’s why I’m still usin’ XP man. Spies are everywhere. Windows 7 sounds like a ‘crapshoot’ to me.

e.e Paranoid…
You obviously have something to hide. NORMAL people wouldn’t care because they wouldn’t have anything to hide.

Wow, paranoid much?
Disabled by default. Able to re-disabled on command. And have you seen how (in)accurate most geo-location services are? Especially with Wi-Fi… You’re being watched more by at least 10 other methods on a daily basis.
Also, who exactly is in this vast Microsoft fanboi club you’re referring to? Everyone knows Vista was the real turd. It’s actually quite a pleasant surprise that they took the time to repair the damage done with that broken O/S, and make it a lot more usable and compatible.

The good thing about most computers is them not having GPS antennas, and WiFi location finding is highly inaccurate (unless you’re on a network that invest a ton of money to provide accurate locations based on IP addresses). According to my IP address, I moved from Louisiana to Washington to Indiana all in the same day! So, I think I’ll go ahead and install Windows 7 without hesitation.
You ought to send this one to Alex Jones, he would have a field day with it! It’s definitely a New-World-Order ploy, population monitoring is one of their strong points!

Seriously, what’s the fuss about? It’s disabled by default. You have to actually turn it on manually for this to work.

The comments really illustrate one of the biggest issues America’s dealing with now: Complacency. Everyone’s too lazy to care. There’s a considerably wide divide between paranoia and caution.
You can take a pretty good educated guess at what someone is going to do in the future by looking at what they’ve done in the past, right? Microsoft has a past speckled with privacy invasion and massive security issues due to their lackadaisical design.
It’s not about “hiding something,” it’s about our rights. When you give up a little, you open the door to give up a lot. Stop being comatose push-overs.
