We Demand our Facebook!

I work in the Twilight Zone<tm>.  As such, very little is normal.

What really makes my head spin around 360 degrees, spitting pea soup, is the sheer entitlement my coworkers are either hired for or somehow manage to develop after fifteen minutes on the job.

The other day we noticed that our internet pipes were clogged.  Pulling up my Gee Whiz Monitoring Apparatus, it became obvious that a huge amount of traffic was going to and from Faceyspaces.  Yes, there was some business videoconferencing too, which wasn’t helping.

Since videoconferencing was for business, the decision was made to shut down Facebook for a short while, so we could maintain business function.

It didn’t take five minutes before the first queries started coming in:  HEY - why can’t I get to Faceyspaces?  WHAT DID YOU DO?  HEYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!##$%**#*#@@)@!

I told you they’re entitled.

If we had blocked the company website, no one would have noticed for at least five years.   But since it was Facebook, the alarm bells were ringing.

Let me ask you: if you couldn’t get to a site for your job, you’d inquire - right?  Would you also inquire if you couldn’t get to smileyfaces.com?  Your personal AOL email?  Do tell.

I could have a boss from hell.  I could have her boss from hell.  The owner could be a screamingly unbalanced sociopath who left his lithium at home today. If so, I know exactly how he would make the tough decisions on staff reduction:  the moment the screaming and crying about Faceyspaces started, fire them in the order they complain.

They’d probably sue for unfair termination.  Those thieving bastards in I.T. blocked their social media time-wasting.

They’d probably win too.

I agree completely. As a matter of fact, I would trace each connection, and send a little message along with the block “Get back to work, don’t return to this site again, it is being blacklisted in our firewall. Non-business sites are not allowed here.”

It’s actually ok to goof off where I work. I don’t think anyone’s aware of exactly how much goofing off there is, though…
