Torchwood Fans - Take Notice

I have to wonder at a show that has a very successful first season, then continues on with a very successful second season, killing off two major characters at the end.  Then they wait well over a year to put out the third `season’, which consists of five episodes, covering five days.

But I’m a hardcore fan.  There was no way in hell I wasn’t going to see the new season - all five episodes of it.

As it appears I’m giving up Dish Sat Network, there is no more BBCAmerica so I didn’t know it was on until someone else was kind enough to let me know.

By the end of the next day, I had all five episodes burned to DVD for our viewing pleasure.

Last night I watched Day One.  They hit you right up front and it only gets more exciting from there.  My wife noted that Eve Myles (Gwen) lost a lot of weight.  I have a horrible crush on her and absolutely no idea why.  She’s pretty far from my ideal woman, especially as far as weight goes.  I think it’s a combination of the eyes and the hair.

Also returning were John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones), and the fellow who plays Rhys (Gwen’s husband).  They make some new and interesting friends right out of the gate.

I think I was still catching my breath this morning, after one episode.  The writing, as in past seasons, is spectacular.  I’m guessing the budget went up too, considering the success of the previous two seasons.

But there is something about the writing that gets to me on a very personal level.  Friends who are also fans tend to agree but can’t put their finger on it.  My wife, a new fan, loved it.  She didn’t expect to, though.  On the other hand, she also watches horrid old movies for hours on end so maybe she’s not the best sampling…

It must’ve been after eight tonight when I put Day Two on.  This was rapidly followed by Day Three and Day Four.  The only thing that stopped Day Five was more to do around the house, plus little things like eating and sleeping.  I’m saving it for tomorrow night.

I am still reverberating from three episodes.  Same great writing.  Wonderful characters, new and old.  Insane plot twists.  Off-world guests.  I won’t reveal anything - don’t worry.

Now all I have to do is get through work tomorrow.  Ugh.

Watch Torchwood.  Become an instant fan.

I missed all of the second season, as we gave up DirecTV about a year ago. BBCAmerica is one of the things I enjoyed most, well, that and Real Time with Bill Maher.

as for Gwen, she is undeniably hot, and for me, the weight is no problem, I don’t like women who look like they might snap if hugged too tightly. No, if I were to pick nits, it would be the teeth spacing, but what the heck, nobody’s perfect.

Torchwood was a favorite, and I am surprised it did not do better. I preferred it to the show that spun it off.

I also enjoyed MI-5, but then I liked most of BBCAmerica. Television that doesn’t insult my intelligence is something not easily found these days. I think I’ve always had British sensibilities, except for Benny Hill, I never quite got that.

What’s your take on Diana Rigg? Emma Peel was my first television crush, and I was all of 7.

2nd Season was great also. Torrents are your friend.
Graham Norton is a howl too.

Apparently it’s only a matter of time til the Gwen fan pages start (if they haven’t already). Most people seem to say she’s got *something*.

My understanding is that Torchwood did really well. There are plans for many more, assuming this does well. I hear that it’s the top show on BBCA and huge Over There too.

Meanwhile I keep hearing my mom’s voice when I used to watch Python: “I can’t understand what they’re saying.” :)

Not sure the Brits like Benny Hill. The irony is that he was gay.

I might be with you on Diana.. I don’t know if I knew what to call it, though. Don’t forget that one of her successors was Joanna Lumley(?), the blonde on Absolutely Fabulous.

Never `got’ AbFab either. If it weren’t for public tv, I would never have seen Python or any of my other favorites.

Both Torchwood and Doctor Who are two of my favorite shows on TV. In fact, my wife is even addicted to them and she does not usually like science fiction. Even though I have seen them all, I just finished watching a Doctor Who marathon the other day on SciFi network (I refuse to call it Syfy).

Something about Eve Myles (Gwen) is attractive though not in the traditional sense. I thought so even when she played a guest role on a Doctor Who episode (not as Gwen). Her weight gives her nice curves and her voice is mesmerizing.

I noticed a few new episodes of Torchwood and Doctor Who being sold on DVD and Bluray; I wish they would televise those episodes here. I hate to use torrents or streaming and would prefer to watch it legally, but I refuse to buy a DVD I’ll only watch occasionally.

SPOILER WARNING… BBC has killed off the series with Season Three, including most of the major characters. As with the SciFi channel in America, they appear to be abandoning quality in search of the quick profits to be had from pandering to the lowest common denominator of the masses. Like the SciFi channel, I expect they will soon be peddling mostly horror and disaster, instead of the “Innovative. Bordering on the avant-garde.” Shame on them. I’m through with BBC. I can get trash TV in America without any import duties.
