Well, it’s more of a silent invasion.
Due to their ever-expanding need for storage, the NSA is building a data warehouse (a physical data warehouse?) in San Antonio.
Fun Facts:
- San Antonio has the cheapest electricity in Texas
- the need for storage space happened right after 9-11
- the NSA is already a presence at Lackland Air Force Base, where they eavesdrop (SIGINT)
- the NSA wanted assurance that Microsoft would build there too, as they’re the `motherlode of data centers’
- Microsoft can be tapped into via fiber line, without warrant
- Microsoft had no comment
- convenient to UTSA’s Institute for Cyber Security and the school’s Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security.
- Congress can’t (won’t) monitor the NSA because jurisdiction over national-security issues is very divided
