I’m all over the place when it comes to technology….
I like my computers fast and my audio through tubes.
I like analog tape to record but guitar amp emulators are pretty nifty toys.
I’m trying to go green but nothing rides like a big old Land Yacht.
I’ve got several web pages, a blog, a smart phone, a network that calls me when something’s wrong and a whole passel of linux computers.
What I don’t have is interesting too. I don’t have an instant messaging client. I don’t have a social network. I don’t twitter. I have two close friends who have Facebook accounts but I haven’t seen it until someone showed it to me recently. Hell, I don’t even have a Geeks.com account (Pirillo is going to kill me). I don’t see the necessity of having a blog there when I have one here. I don’t even have one of those Back Seat Drivers that people call `Garmins.’
I think part of it is an intense desire for privacy. Another part is a desire not to be disturbed. I have phones ringing all day long; why would I want to come home to an IM client ringing all night long on my computer?
Facebook was described as a way to stay in touch. Perhaps I don’t want to stay in touch. My buddy told me that as soon as you get an account, people start coming out of the woodwork to talk to you. Everybody wants to be your friend.
If I had a need to talk to the guy who sat in the last seat on the right in my first grade class, I’d look him up. Signing up for an account is not an invitation for every generic crackpot to have an intimate chat with me. I prefer to pick my own crackpots, thank you.
I often wonder why I don’t get certain things. In this case, I just gave up wondering. I don’t care and am happy enough to leave them alone.
Mind you, neither of my brothers (both younger) knows what a torrent or RSS feed is.
The technology world is a strange place.

Did you see the article about Flutter - perhaps you should try it instead of Twitter (g)
I used to think it might be age, but as with many things like bad music, I hated the same stuff twenty years ago. (as for the bad music - there does seem to be much more of it these days - I am of the opinion that the good acts want to many exceptions in their contracts, and don’t get signed)

oracle: once again, you hit it on the head. Sucking is universal. As for music, if they started putting something other than PRODUCT out, maybe they’d generate some sales.
P.S. seeing Jeff Beck Wednesday. He only improves with age.
