Newt is Now Pandering to the Religious Right

Newt Gingrich has formed a group called Renewing American Leadership, which is devoted to religious liberty and defending the role of religion in American history.
By a strange coincidence, the religious right is boiling over because none of the current crop of criminals is sucking up to them at the moment (election’s over, guys).
Here’s what old Newt is upset about:
- an appeals court outlawing saying `one nation under God’
- the White House trying to impose the `secular state’ on religious people who believe abortion is murder
- the `continued assault on religion’
- Obama’s stimulus package prohibits money going to building used for religious purposes
- the educational system has grown rabidly anti-religious
Either Newt is really smart (and early) in his pandering in an attempt to win future votes or he’s every bit as unwell as the rest of the people whose major issue (and misconception) in life is being able to say God in the pledge of allegiance.
Let’s (once again) visit the red herrings brought up by Gingrich:
- One nation under God: this clearly has no place in government-led speech. It is quite simply the Establishment that the First Amendment prohibits. It has all the herring-like qualities of its cousin: school prayer. The phrase `under God’ was added later - it was not included in the original.
- Imposing the secular state: another red herring. He is not imposing anything; he is preventing the religious imposition upon the rest of us.
- Assault on religion: the third strike in the Herring Game - he’s out! There is no assault on religion. It’s a phrase spun by the people who want their religion to control everyone else.
- Money for religious buildings: this is because religious buildings house religious groups, to which no government/public money should go. It’s called SEPARATION (President Bush).
- the educational system: has grown rabidly anti common sense. It has gone to hell. It is no longer valid. The last thing it needs is to be preaching. Once again, it’s called Establishment.
I think Newt is just steps away from announcing his candidacy.
What do you think?

As much as I like Newt, because I actually do, he is one of the few Republicans who rises above the level of rat-bastard in my book, he is a politician, and will pander to whomever serves his purposes.
What do you bet we see a possible Gingrich - Palin face off in 2012, with Palin being given the number 2 spot again?

Forgot to say, I disagree with him about 85 -90% of the time, but that doesn’t stop me from liking him.
He is one of those politicians who actually knows why he believes what he does. His positions are usually not something given to him on a list along with the contribution.

Oracle: I think he’s a really bright guy, which makes him that much more dangerous. He has uttered some interesting, almost libertarian-like statements, which gave me hope, but then I came to my senses.
The red herrings in his arguments really annoy me, moreso than any generic politician’s prattling. The RR needs to be watched by anyone who cares about their constitution.
It’s interesting that you like him in spite of disagreeing with him 90% of the time. Let’s face it, the guy is definitely pandering now.
As for Newt/Palin, I just got pre-frightened.
Do you suppose his mother didn’t want to have a child and he’s been paying for it his entire life?

Newt is one strange dude. If you liked Dick Cheney, you’re gonna love Newton Leroy McPherson (Gingrich’s real name before adoption by his step father.) Remember Jimmy Carter’s brother? Newt’s half-sister, Candace Gingrich, a gay and lesbian rights activist, promises to be equally entertaining. Newt plans on converting to Catholicism, his current wife’s religion, unless he divorces her. Perhaps Newt will run on the Authoritarian party ticket.
Palin was chosen to get the cheese-cake vote and the disgruntled-hilliary-follower vote. That’s her total political expertise. Hilliary fans finally came to their senses.

Newt’s seeking support from the far right because the Republican Party is moving closer towards the center. If someone doesn’t pull the religious right in quick, then they won’t be there to side with the far right and the Centrists will have complete control by next election time.
With the Centrists in control Newt wouldn’t have any where left to go.
