The Inauguration: Mass Drooling

The day started with my radio going off.  My local bigmouth who just went national, Michael Smerconish, was talking about the inauguration, the ones he attended for one of the Bushes, and then he went to his guy in DC, who explained what it looked like.  After wishing his guy luck, he said he hoped he didn’t have to leave his spot to go to the bathroom. (what do you want from me - Howard Stern isn’t on FM anymore)

The place where I work (The Twilight Zone<tm>) made arrangements to stream the ceremony to a large-screen tv for anyone who wished to watch.  You’re probably saying to yourself that this must be a great place to work; where you get paid to watch tv.  The only thing I can say is that we don’t get paid a lot.

While the spectacle was going on, it was interesting to note that there was only one department working: mine.  Later I figured I could get to the microwave with less waiting.  I walked past another tv set up for the occasion and was flummoxed to see about fifty of my coworkers standing there at rapt attention.  Nobody moved.  They just stared at the tv.

Looking around the building, there was almost no one at their desks.  It was like walking in the building late at night.  It was at about that point that it hit me: The Great Unwashed were drooling en masse.  They cheered on cue.  It was no doubt happening all over the place.  It was available all over the internet as a live stream.

We get the government we deserve.  This is proof positive.

Every four years we stare at the idiot box, sucking up what our chosen liar has to say and arguing with others as if there were a difference.  When whoever gets elected, he proceeds to break every one of his promises and screw the populace.  With absolutely no memory, we do this dance over again four years later.

Aren’t you tired of this yet?

HOW PIOUS WE ARE

Of course at every inauguration, we have to swear on a bible (we don’t have to but it seems like it’s the law). This would go along with the candidates or occupants being followed to church on Sunday to prove how religious they are.

Sorry, folks; the bible has no place at government functions.  The First Amendment protects the religious from the government and the populace from the overzealous religious.  Having a bible is quite simply Establishment.

I’m long past tired of listening to the press kiss the president’s bottom.  They certainly didn’t give Bush this much praise or leeway on his way into office (not that he deserved it).   Understand that I’m not commenting on the president here - I’m talking about the press.

This country is riding a credit-card bedecked SUV to hell.  Yet there are countless millions of dollars for an inauguration.  A really smart move here would be to have the inauguration at the White House.  The president could then state that he was doing it that way because we as a country are not in the place where we can afford that kind of celebration.

I seem to be the only one questioning the drooling masses.  It appears that there’s no hope for them.  They drank the Kool Aid.  They believe Obama intends to keep his promises.   It just bothers me that there are so many more of the Great Unwashed than I thought.  People that I work with and respect bought the entire scheme.  Otherwise intelligent people.

If you look at the team Obama brought in, you could see immediately that this is not change - it’s more of the same.  But we’re obviously not bright enough to divine this.

Meet the new liar.  Same as the old liar.

One Comment

It was a historic day indeed with the inauguration of Barack Obama and now Obama will have to sit down and to tackle the problems facing the United States of America. The economy, oil, jobs and two wars will all be Obama’s focal points during his historic first 90 days in office. The changing of the guard will hopefully equal a end to the crisis.
