House Approves $14 Billion Handout for Automakers (But None for You)

It should come as no surprise that the traitorous thieving bastards in Congress wish to give away another fourteen billion taxpayer dollars, this time to the automakers.

By some estimates, correspondence with Congresscritters from constituents ran close to ninety percent against the banking handout, yet it was approved.   We’ve all seen how well that went.  Nothing like a little threatening (martial law) to get your bill passed.

Now the automakers are crying poor.   Congress, never to be overestimated, made a show of slapping the automakers on the wrist, then bent right over and gave away fourteen billion of our dollars.

Once again, Congress has chosen to reward fiscal mismanglement with billions of taxpayer dollars.

  • Was it the taxpayers who ran these businesses into the ground?
  • Did the taxpayers approve this?
  • How long until the automakers come back for more?
  • What will the next group be with its hand out for taxpayer dollars?
  • Who is going to bail out the taxpayers?

One of the concepts being discussed, to give the appearance of fiscal oversight, is the position of Car Czar.  The automakers are supposed to report to the Car Czar every ten days (don’t hold your breath).

Meanwhile back with the constituents, I went to see the dentist today.  I had to leave almost two hundred dollars there and this is with insurance.

At work, the people from benefits were all excited because we got the lowest rate possible from Aetna.  Strangely enough, this only translated to a ten percent increase in premiums.  I didn’t bother doing the math because it would make my head hurt.  Along with the premium increase came the normal service decreases and copay increases.

By the time I’m done with healthcare costs, there’s barely money for xmas gifts.   No, wait, because of the additional dental expenses, there’s almost no money for xmas gifts.

My wife, as you might have read, is on Disability, which is supposed to cover her healthcare.  Because she requires a lot of medicines, which MEDICARE doesn’t cover, we pay extra to keep her on my plan.  It’s ridiculous, yes, but if she had to pay for her meds out-of-pocket, it would be thousands of dollars per month.   Now multiply this by everyone who is on Medicare for disability or Social Security.

As an aside, if my wife were on a Medicaid program, this would all be covered.   So in addition to bailing out the banks and automakers, we’re also funding Medicaid programs that are far superior to the grossly overpriced health insurance we get through work or privately.

The irony is like a razorblade to the wrists.

And I’m told I’m one of the Lucky Ones.  I manage to make the mortgage payment, so we can keep our house.  Unlike some other people who can’t make the mortgage payments and…  oh…  they got bailed out too, along with the banks.

Let me try to figure this out… it’s just not making sense…

The rank and file, who work for a living, pay taxes.  As if the taxes weren’t burdensome enough, now the wage earners get to bail out not only the financial organizations that sold bad loans, they also get to help bail out the people who got the mortgages they couldn’t afford.  Then the automakers, who ran their own businesses into the ground.

Who is going to bail US out?  Our wages haven’t increased.  Our taxes haven’t decreased.  Our expenses are the only thing increasing.

Was it Mark Twain who said that the only native criminal class was Congress?

Boy, with all that extra cash it should also be easier to build a few more factories overseas. Like this one here?

Not that I am against world trade but lets get real. Is the car czar going to assure that the US taxpayers money is invested here?

I agree with you lefty. This is ridiculous.

Lumpy: I’m trying to decide if it’s ironic that Ford is the only one who said `not now’ to the handout.

Thanks for the comment.

Man, can I relate to you! In so many ways.

This whole bail out thing is a crock! When did we, as a nation, stop believing in capitalism? You know; where if you have a business and you don’t run it properly- you fail!? Or if you run a business successfully- you reap the rewards!

Capitalism isn’t supposed to be about rewarding failure with money! I feel like I’m living in bizzarro land lately! I just don’t get where our heads are at. I hope if nothing else we, as a free people (for now), will vote out EVERY incumbent in office. Let’s get a fresh start!

I can relate to your other pains too. Insurance coverage that is expensive, but doesn’t pay out much in return. My wife also has regular expenses for medicine and supplies. One of my sons has Cerebral Palsy. The one difference is that he does get Medicaid because he is completely and permanently disabled. Even at that, the Medicaid didn’t kick in before the medical costs almost completely bankrupted us. It was a long slow climb back to a “normal” financial picture.

Yet, people like us find a way to pay our bills as is expected of us. In a way, I’m proud of all of us that live by “old fashioned values”. We work as hard as we can and don’t expect a hand out from anyone. It boggles my mind that our society seems to increasingly have a mind set of entitlement. The entitlement mentality is going to get us all in a whole lot of trouble if we don’t correct it soon.

I don’t know where you draw your strength to continue on from; but I get mine from prayer and study of the Word of God. Go Jesus!
