Dell E4300 - XP and Xubuntu Sort-of Review

I received my long-awaited Dell E4300 laptop yesterday.  It’s designed to be portable, with a 13.3″ display (those .3″ really make the difference) and very light weight (not much more than an EEE-PC).  Fortunately it has quite a bit more horsepower than the EEE-PC, due to its Intel 2.4GHz processor, 2G RAM, and lack of [...]

The FBI is Listening… Don’t Say ‘Hussein!’

Sheriff Mike Scott, from Lee County, FL (where most weird election stories start), got to be the warmup act for a GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Warming up the troops, he started with, “On November 4, let’s leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened.”
Sheriff Scott was left wondering what happened when the FBI rolled up [...]

The Online Flu Epidemic of 2008

More than 4,500 people received free flu shots Saturday at Bucks County’s third annual Pandemic Flu Drill.
Come on down!! Barbecue and free flu shots! It’s our third year anniversary! Free masks and duct tape!!!

Uh-Oh… White Powder in the Mail at Chase…

Ten Chase banks got the famous Letter with White Powder delivery today.  The powder tested harmless, per the FBI.  Seven branches in Denver and three in Oklahoma were the recipients.  There were also letters with threats but the FBI said we don’t have a need to know about the threats.
I’m curious as to what’s up [...]

EEE-Pc [XP version] Mini Review

We just received the EEE-Pc, formerly known as the 1000H.  It got discontinued or replaced with this one, somewhat strangely known as the 1000H.  Don’t ask me - I’m a victim of what the vendor told me.
We have two EEE’s now; one with the stock Xandros and one with EEE-Ubuntu that I installed.  The nettops [...]

Hamfest, Sociology, and Fake Boobs

Well, as you can guess it’s been an interesting day.
Up at 6am for the hamfest.  I have no idea why this is, especially as I’ve spent most of my life staying in bed late.  The hamfest is not what you think either.  It’s a sort of flea market for amateur radio, electronics, and computer geeks.  [...]
