Inside Operation Highlander: NSA’s Wiretapping of Americans Overseas

Here’s yet another in the series of “Before you call me a paranoid raving lunatic” blogs.

Right after 9-11, Operation Highlander got started.  Poorly organized, hastily staffed, and given an illegal mandate to violate your civil rights.

Rest assured there were counterparts in at least two countries.  I’ll go with the UK and Australia, but that’s my guess. The way the governments attempted to dance around their own laws was by having their reciprocal agency spying on their people while they spied for a different country.

Does the coordination intrigue you?  Isn’t it amazing that disparate intelligence(?) agencies somehow managed to get together with their counterparts in entirely different countries and put this spying together?  And that they were all responding to 9-11 in the same manner?

Does this really look like a happy accident to you?
