The Computer Security Group at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) has released a short, chilling video demonstrating how a single person can hack an election on a touch-screen voting system.
Yes, our good friends over at Diebold are now twirling with delight. You too can hack a voting machine! You can even set up your own voting machine company and promise the election to the candidate of your choice. Ain’t it good to be alive?

I don’t see how a hack on the optical scan system would also defeat the paper trail. When the voter marks the ballot, that mark is made in permanent marker. An audit of the paper ballots and the machine’s tally’s would show whether or not there is a problem.
So what did I miss?
