replacement treo

I have certainly done my share of complaining about Palm’s alleged upgrades to the Treo 700p.   In the interest of fairness, I want to relate a positive experience.

Last Friday, another phone clip broke and my Treo 700p went hurtling to the ground.  This normally wouldn’t be a problem but it landed in the precise spot needed to shatter the display.  I was aghast… I’ve had the phone for three years and there wasn’t a scratch (I’m good with glasses too for some strange reason).

I made use of insurance to replace the phone and had a new one in twenty four hours.  I had a problem with the lack of a decent linux Palm desktop but did a backup with the excellent Jpilot.  I doubled this with NVbackup on the SD card just in case.

With new phone in hand, I plugged her up and did the restore from Jpilot.

VOILA!  Good as new.

It was a short, painless effort and it’s like nothing ever happened.  This was a very positive experience.  One thing Palm did right was to make transitions and restores short and sweet.

Now I’ll stop before I start bitching (again) about the alleged upgrades to the 700p’s  :)
