exxon mobil. again.

NEW YORK  CNNMoney.com) — Exxon Mobil once again reported the largest quarterly profit in U.S. history Thursday, posting net income of $11.68 billion on revenue of $138 billion in the second quarter.
Is anybody shocked or surprised?
Yes, it’s Blame Time.  Must be the falling dollar.  Yeah, that’s it.

joan jett signature guitar (and anecdote)

For some reason that I am obviously incapable of divining, Gibson Guitars has just introduced a Joan Jett signature Melody Maker guitar.
It’s not too difficult to understand the allure of a celebrity endorsement but this one is just baffling.  Let’s face it, kids… the venerable Ms Jett is to guitars what Dick Cheney is to [...]

IOC admits internet censorship deal with china

Some International Olympic Committee officials cut a deal to let China block sensitive Web sites despite promises of unrestricted access, a senior IOC official admitted on Wednesday. Persistent pollution fears and China’s concerns about security in Tibet also remained problems for organizers nine days before the Games begin.
Most impressive.  The IOC [...]

virtualization update

I have added some more info on the virtualization process.  You can find it above, in the virtualization section.  After a month or so, I have made many observations on the process (also known as Making Many Mistakes).  You can find them at the end of the page.  It’s obviously still an open topic, as [...]

stevens indicted on corruption charges

Sentator Ted Stevens has been indicted on seven counts of corruption, according to broadcast reports.
Stevens is the man who gave us `the internet as a set of tubes.’   Unfortunately he wouldn’t know the internet from a vacuum tube.
Another one bites the dust.   It’s a shame they’ll never go after the real criminals.

baking pan tube amp project

This is just too cool.
For you electronics geeks, here’s a project that will give you really decent tube sound using only two tubes.  The tubes are 6T9’s, which house a triode and pentode in the same enclosure, giving you the preamp and power amp in one, per channel.
If you don’t fancy a baking pan, you [...]
