playing blackberrys and indians…

There’s a tremendous brouhaha going on in India over RIM’s Blackberry. Initially, India’s government demanded the keys to decrypt the transmissions. In plain english, in which we can safely assume the demand was not made, they want the ability to eavesdrop (intercept, spy) on all conversations in and out of the country on Blackberrys.

RIM caved in.

Apparently RIM heard, shortly thereafter, from what I assume was Concerned Subscribers, that this would not be acceptable and told India that there was no way they could provide the key. In fact they didn’t have the key.

Yay RIM.

In the latest round, India stated that they had better turn over the key if they want to keep operating in India.

No doubt we haven’t heard the last of this.
