A while back there was an initiative to install starter interlock devices on cars so you’d have to take a breathalyzer test before your car would start. Fortunately this did not pass, although I remember it being ordered on a case by case basis.

The latest bit of helpful (and redundant) legislation comes from Pennsylvania’s own Josh Shapiro, who wishes to decree that no one in PA be allowed to drive while talking, unless on a hands-free adapter.

It is already illegal to drive recklessly.
Now Senator Shapiro wants to make it more illegal.

How long until we see legislation to ban driving while eating fast food? Or while changing the radio station? Or putting on makeup? Or shifting gears? Next thing you know, he’ll attempt to criminalize driving while reading the newspaper, fer chrissake!

I know I’m shooting myself in the foot here, but based upon my totally scientific poll (my passenger tells me), every idiot that has done something stupid right in front of me has been talking on the phone. It seems there is already a starter interlock device in cars. The car refuses to start unless the driver is already on his cell phone.
