I just got a new TV. I do not know the exact model number, but I know it’s an older model. Looking online, I found the same TV for $899.99. I paid $699.99. I got mine from my local HEB Plus and it was the display model that was up for three weeks before I bought it (yay for me).

But does the cheap price have drawbacks?

Okay, it is an older model TV, so it is fairly thick. It is about eight inches deep, which is very thick for an LCD. The reason is unnecessary. The ports are put sideways, or perpendicular with the screen, rather than on the same plane. This adds about 4 inches to the thickness, but that’s just a small gripe. Also, it is limited on ports with only two HDMI ports and one doesn’t have audio, I think. Blacks aren’t as dark as I would hope, but that’s not a huge issue for me. It tries to compensate by darkening the screen based on ambient lighting and what is on screen. This is fine, but it does it too much. The screen will go slightly dark and it will go from full brightness to about 10% and back up. It is fairly annoying to be honest. But I fixed that with a little bit of playing in the menus.

So was it worth the price?

Okay… yes, there are a few issues that can be annoying, but the price was unbelievable. Browsing around, I couldn’t find a TV for this price that was even close to the size. The closest I found was $649.99 and it was a 40″. It was Insignia too, I think. The fact I found a name brand for this cheap was great for me. If you have found an awesome TV or other major electronic and got it for a super cheap price, share it in the comments! Feel free to brag about your awesome frugal-ness!

This is just a type of discussion for your feelings on topics like gay marriage, gay adoption rights, etc… everything that relates to equality for all people.

To get started, I’ll put my feelings. I am an openly gay male, so I am not ashamed to say that I want rights for me and whoever I choose to live the rest of my life with. I just feel like I should be given the same rights as everyone else. And it hurts to know that people are voting on your rights to marry. How would you feel if I got to vote for your right to marry? Gay people cannot choose the life they live. The discrimination faced is horrible and knowing that people who you don’t know and who don’t know you hate you before you even meet them.

Think Love Sacs, but a third the price… just no cup-holders

I got the Sumo Sac Sultan. The 4 foot wide one. It is ridiculously huge! It just beckons to have multiple people on it, and I can honestly say that people love to do flying jumps onto it. It is a great gaming, movie, cuddling chair. Everything about it is great!

It is made from a giant water-resistant bag filled with shredded furniture foam. This means it is soft, silent, and never goes flat. It is incredible!

It runs $250 with free shipping, which I think is 100% worth it seeing as you can put as many people on it as you can a couch. Think a convertible couch for super cheap. They are great for college students and people who love movies.

You can go grab one at Sumo Sac’s Website.

I have noticed people claim that the Android phone won’t take off because they don’t pay enough attention to detail on the demo picture. They said this because the analog clock and the digital clock weren’t on the same time. They said the iPhone took off because Apple always pays attention to the slightest details. I noticed something small too, but this time it was Apple’s mistake. Here are pictures containing their mistake.

That is obviously a 15″ MacBook Pro claiming to be a 17″ MacBook Pro.

That is not attention to detail.

Could the iPhone 3G, from teh “glorious” apple actually have a defect?

I actually think that mine could.

When I got my iPhone in July, I thought at first that something was wrong with the glass covering on the screen. It was nothing major. Just that it seemed like it sunk down in the bottom right and slightly in the top right, and the bottom left. When I was playing around with other’s iPhones and iPhone 3G’s, I noticed theirs did not. It is nothing major, there is no gap (except a slight hairline one that you can see the backlight through when its dark), so this must be either a defect in my phone, or something I did. Seeing as it was like this when I got it in the AT&T store, I am ruling myself out. The sales associate opened the box in front of me and I didn’t see here do anything that could have caused it, so she is not to blame either. I want to believe that it was either a factory defect, or the iPhone 3G I played with had a defect and didn’t have this. I don’t think that is likely.

If you know anything about this, or have this as well, let me know. Remember, this is not a problem. This is just something small I noticed. I don’t feel like it is to the point where I should try to return it, but I also don’t think that Apple should use such shoddy workmanship on something they take great pride in (supposedly all of their products, but whatever)

Just leave a comment and let me know!

Call me what you will, but I always think it is proper to wait a week or two before actually posting about new software and hardware to give the developer some time to get all the minor things worked out. This is no different in the case of the new zune device and software. Personally, I love the zune. It is better than the iPod in all ways imaginable. As far as the software goes, the zune software does use more memory, but wow…. does it use it well. It is a work of art. The software is so customizable, user friendly, and way more organized that iTunes. Also, the new “MixView” puts Apple’s “Genius” back in school.

I have a zune pass, so all my views are based on that. Microsoft made MixView similar to Genius, but with a small exception. That is that with iTunes, it seemed like everything it suggested I didn’t have. I think this may be a move to get even more people buying from iTunes, but zune suggested a few things that I had, and the others I just downloaded because I have a zune pass. Very convenient. Something I was confused by happened a few days ago, I had Flobots playing and Genius recommended all these Black Eyed Peas albums. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with Black Eyed Peas, but I couldn’t see how this related to Flobots. I used the zune marketplace and used MixView and it also suggested Black Eyed Peas. I moused over it in the zune marketplace and it actually told me why. Black Eyed Peas and Rage against the Machine are related artists and Rage is inspired by the Flobots apparently. I actually learned something new from music. I was also recommended to people who listen to a lot of the same music as me, so I was able to listen to their recents.

The zune marketplace, zune pass, and zune 120 make a seamless music/social networking experience other players just don’t have. I am currently working on filing up the 120 and with the zune pass and all these cool features, it shouldn’t take too long.

Also, Corpus Christi doesn’t have the radio tags like other cities, so I can’t test that feature. If you like the zune or have a favorite player, list it in the comments and say why it is your favorite!

On a side note…. Spammers, rot in hell if you keep trying to comment on my posts. I moderate every comment that goes in and out of my blog. Yours will not be seen by anyone but myself and I will not click on anything. Stop wasting my time and yours as well. That is all

I know we all get those people trying to leave comments that are obviously spam, but it has just gotten ridiculous! Before, you would just get the comments cutting a snippet out of your blog and pasting it into another, but now, it seems like they are trying to put “Generic Cialis” and other stupid ads in my blogs! Including comments not in english! It is fine if you don’t speak english, but please. Do not advertise on my blog in another language in the hopes I will just approve it. I actually do go and monitor my blogs.

I know not everyone who reads this will have a blog on here, but most of you do. If you feel like you are being spammed relentlessly by spammers too, leave a comment saying it. If it isn’t spam, I will approve you. I know the title to this seems extreme, but there are better ways to make a living that making ads that the public will never see and just annoying bloggers to no end. If you are a spammer. Please do not ever comment on my blog again. No one cares about generic cialis, webcams, or granny pr0n. That is just sick and disgusting to do that on a tech blog.

My rant is over. Have a nice day.

Most of you know the problems facing the iPhone. It is having issues with 3G, Apps randomly crashing, bugs causing crashes, the phone mysteriously going out of service and refusing to get back on.We all have seen the stories pointing these out. Here is something I noticed. My phone was not having these problems when I first got it. I was running the 2.0 software and had none of these problems. Then 2.0.1 came out and I started noticing apps crashing and not starting back up, 3G was getting worse… I didn’t know what to do, when suddenly, Apple released 2.0.2 and I was ecstatic. I thought that it would fix all the problems that came about in 2.0.1…. was I ever wrong. 2.0.2 just made things worse than 2.0.1 did. It fixed absolutely nothing. It just made everything more broken. With 2.0.1, only some apps crashed and wouldn’t start back up. Now, all my apps don’t work. Before, I could just reset and the apps would work again. Now, I can’t do anything. The iPod app. The one made by apple won’t even work. I called up Apple tech support for the iPhone and all they told me was they were working on it, and to just wait for a fix to come. There was nothing they could do.We all saw the ads where the guy would talk about using his iPhone as an iPod. I can’t even do that. The only apps that work are Safari (sometimes), Phone, Text, and Photos. Sometimes, if I am lucky, I can get weather to work. Also, the iPhone has gotten sooooo slow. Opening up settings takes about a minute where it used to take only seconds. This is just unacceptable from Apple.

I will say right now, the iPhone 3G’s glossy back, while pretty, is one of the biggest fingerprint magnets on the planet. One of the most famous ways to prevent fingerprints from building up is to just get a case for your phone, but we all know this is not for everyone.

I am the kind of guy that doesn’t want his fancy new iPhone looking bad because of the case. I still want it to look good, but I also want it protected. Finding a case that solves both problems can be a little hard. Let me know if you have any luck finding a solution. I already have a case and will buy a new one if I can find a better one. Here is my experience with them.

Silicone cases bother me to no end. I don’t carry my phone in my hand, I am a guy, so I don’t have a purse to keep a phone in, I keep my phone in my pocket. If you have tried to get something covered in silicone in and out of your pocket, it isn’t easy. They also collect dust and lint. Yes, I know you can just wash them, but I would rather have a case that I can just “Set it and forget it.”

I actually bought the Griffin Wave Case from Apple’s website. It is a very good case, but if you have wet hair when using your phone or sweat while on the phone, your hair will actually transfer water under the case which can be annoying at times. I also use the anti-glare screen protector. I am sorry, but I do not know who made it, or how much it cost. I don’t have the receipt and payed with cash. It is a nice case, so if you see an anti-glare one, it will probably do well. I like it cause you do not see fingerprints, and it works well in sunlight without blinding you.

I am thinking of getting a full body protection case. Something like BodyGuardz or similar. If anyone knows of a good one, let me know!

The keyboard on the iPhone is incredible. It auto corrects words perfectly vast majority of the time. It has adaptive text which is usually spot. But, it is not perfect. There is a bug somewhere in the software that makes it lag when you start typing, and it usually catches up, no problem. Everyone who has one has talked about this and is annoyed by it. I have another problem with mine, that I have seen before, but no one seems to mention it. It is the iPhone just lagging behind horribly bad. It takes its sweet time and takes about 1 second for each key press. It recognizes where my fingers have been and keeps typing, but its just so annoying! And to make it go away, you have to clear all the text you have entered (which takes just as long) and go home, wait a second, then go back into SMS. I really do wish that Apple would fix this. I really was hoping it would be fixed in 2.0.1. If anyone else has this problem, let me know.

For those of you wondering, no… I did not die. I am just in a new place. I moved into my dorm for school, and haven’t had time for a new blog post or YouTube video.

VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either Parallels or VMware (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with VMware and/or Parallels.
