iPhone 3G Factory Defect?

Could the iPhone 3G, from teh “glorious” apple actually have a defect?

I actually think that mine could.

When I got my iPhone in July, I thought at first that something was wrong with the glass covering on the screen. It was nothing major. Just that it seemed like it sunk down in the bottom right and slightly in the top right, and the bottom left. When I was playing around with other’s iPhones and iPhone 3G’s, I noticed theirs did not. It is nothing major, there is no gap (except a slight hairline one that you can see the backlight through when its dark), so this must be either a defect in my phone, or something I did. Seeing as it was like this when I got it in the AT&T store, I am ruling myself out. The sales associate opened the box in front of me and I didn’t see here do anything that could have caused it, so she is not to blame either. I want to believe that it was either a factory defect, or the iPhone 3G I played with had a defect and didn’t  have this. I don’t think that is likely.

If you know anything about this, or have this as well, let me know. Remember, this is not a problem. This is just something small I noticed. I don’t feel like it is to the point where I should try to return it, but I also don’t think that Apple should use such shoddy workmanship on something they take great pride in (supposedly all of their products, but whatever)

Just leave a comment and let me know!

I have this same problem. I have treated my phone like a baby and have never dropped it besides on the bed. My scenario is a bit different. When I apply pressure to the screen, the glass on my 3g phone creates a depression on the LCD screen it is protecting(making it useless of course) , which is similar to what you described. Except, mine when I apply pressure to single or sometimes multiple areas, a line appears in the form of a huge crack/indention. It appears from the bottom dock and propagates in an upward linear fashion to a more positive plane. My phone also exhibits the hairline fracture you described as well on its left side that is visible in the dark. Write me at my email if you found a solution. My idea is to wipe my phone, restore it and take it to an apple store and show them proof of purchase and demand that it be fixed because it is all under warranty. In the past, I’ve had problems with my macbook pro battery and while it was under warranty I had to take it to apple twice to have the battery swapped because there was a defect in my original and my 1st replacement.

What Do You Think?
