How to read an e-book on your Zune for free
Zune is Microsoft’s attempt to grab the portable music player market. It is not doing too well when compared with Apple’s iPod, which sets the standard for the portable music industry, but there are a lot of people who love their Zunes very much. Why I think so is because of the dedicated Zune communities around the Web.
The do-it-yourself (DIY) site Instructables shows how to read an e-book.Here is a quick summary of what you should do :
- Install jpegbook
- Load your e-book in it (file format needs to be .text)
- Change the size of the output to 320×240
- Steer the output files to a folder monitored by the Zune software
The program generates the book as sequentially numbered JPEGs. Not the most efficient way to read a book on your Zune since it is an image, but it gets the job done. If you are serious about reading e-books on the go, I would recommend Sony e-book reader, but it is a bit too expensive.

This tool allows you to “convert” text such way, that you receive suite graphic files like suite of scanned pages of book or magazine. It is often necessary when you want to read favorite book on MobilePC, which does not have ability to show text files, but only graphical i.e. Zune. This tool has many opportunities for settings output files: type of graphical file, size of file (“resolution”), pagination, margins, font, color of text, line spacing etc. Also you have ability to save favorite settings and load saved earlier.
