Linux and Gaming?

Hello All,
I was thinking, what is stopping me from making Linux my primary operating system and the only thing I could think of was gaming. Linux is an awesome OS, it performs well, its free, does not need a monster system to run on, and is efficient. This is the perfect OS for any business, or college student. You can play music and videos on it, and if you wanted to do any video or audio editing I am sure you can find all the software you ever wanted to do that. Does Linux have anything for me? Can I play the newer games on a Linux system without jumping through more hoops then I care to? I am on a journey to find the answers.
Has anyone heard of WineX or Cedega? I ran across this website and it describes a program called Cedega which allows the Linux user to play some Windows games. After reading the article I was impressed with the ability to play newer games through Cedega, what I was not too impressed with was the instability of the game after installing it through Cedega. I realize playing Windows games on a Linux OS is a challenging process all together so I am not surprised by the instability. I like the fact someone is trying to generate a program to bridge the gap, sure it is not perfect but it is a step in the right direction. The price of Cedega is $5 a month, which is pretty reasonable since the programmer’s time is worth something and if they continue to add more top games to their already 1300 and growing game database, it would pay for itself over the long run. I am not ready to give up gaming on Windows XP but if Cedega makes COD 4, UT3, Battlefield 2142, FarCry 2 available in the future I for one will gladly jump on board.
For those of you who like casual gaming or just need a break from the monotony of work, or sitting around bored at home then WineX will offer you the capability to play some older Windows games. Linux is a great solid operating system tailored to being productive, and I believe the only ingredient missing that will bring Linux more popularity is gaming. I hope you enjoyed this little discussion; I enjoyed discovering something new about Linux.
Until next time,
Kineo
