They stopped making what? When? Oh, No!

The end of the Windows XP era.

Well, I knew it was bound to happen, but I am sad to see the day come when Microsoft finally pulls the plug on XP. I was happy with XP, it is fast, efficient (for me anyway), I have had a few issues with it but nothing compared to Vista. Windows XP has to be one of the best operating system to ever come out of Microsoft, so why stop supporting it? I believe it is economics, they spent x amount of dollars to build Vista and everyone is really happy with XP so there is a lot of money lost because of it. I for one will continue using XP for as long as I can. I sure hope Windows 7 has more to offer us, because I am sure plenty of people will hold out for the newest OS before changing from XP.

I do not feel that by stopping the sale and support of Windows XP people will flock to Vista. OEM manufacturers will stop making systems with Windows XP as an OS option, and I think that is Microsoft’s main goal right now. Since original equipment manufacturers like; Dell and HP, are still allowing customers to choose the OS that is installed on the computer system, this could be seen as a serious threat to Microsoft’s bottom line. I am not against a corporation making money, we live in a capitalistic society nor do I dislike Microsoft, I feel they let the public down by releasing Vista too early, and then requiring manufacturers to install it on all future systems. It is like our freedom of choice has been taken away, but I cannot say that because if you do not like Vista there are other open source options you can consider.

I will leave it all right there for now and talk about more enjoyable subjects next time.

Well, I could talk all day about Microsoft and some of it would be right and a lot would be wrong, mostly my own opinion though. If you feel I have the wrong angle on this or anything else I invite you to leave a comment and let’s talk about it. I truly enjoy original content and rarely will I link to another site or story so if I am wrong in some areas please forgive me and correct me.

Until next time,

Kineo

This one of the reasons why i’m switching to Ubuntu….

I agree with you, Microsoft might be shooting themselves in the foot by trying to make people change to Vista. Stopping support for XP will push more people to other operating systems, in particular Linux. I for one like Linux and used Ubuntu for a while but it would be hard for me to make it my only OS since I enjoy gaming.

I have to agree, it is a sad day comming up here in a few days. I love XP, (I like linux better, but I work in a Microsoft world) I am using Vista now on my new laptop, trying to see if I can handle keeping it. I have to say so far it’s ok, but it does seem sluggish. I was going to blog about this myself but you have said it quite well. I figure MS will support XP for some time to come since they acually did release an SP3. They held off on the SP for the release of vista, hoping for a huge shift over to vista, but when that didn’t occur I guess the major corporations that were on XP were not going to switch to vista any time soon. I have no evidence of this, just my thoughts on how things might be going in the corporate world.

Until the next time,

I work with Windows Vista in the lab and I have to say it has a bloated feel to it. The requirements for the OS is excessive, and most older systems cannot handle. Vista is a good thing for the computer industry, people have to buy new systems to use it. So where is the benefit for us? does Vista have more usable features then Windows XP, I say usable features because Vista does have more features but just how many of them are we really going to use? What ever happened to ReadyBoost? They do not talk about that anymore. I am seeing more back peddling from Microsoft then promises kept. Those of us who are held captive in a Microsoft world are pawns in their game.
