Bermuda Vacation Update 3: Pompano Beach Club Resort

When first arriving at Pompano Beach Club, you’re struck by a few things: the friendly staff, the stunning oceanfront views and the James Bond-like glass-enclose dining room. On our first morning at Pompano Beach Club, I rolled out of bed and into my Nikes for a running tour of the municipal golf course adjoining Pompano Beach Club. Closed while under construction, I was afforded a private tour of the island’s most beautiful (and soon-to-be the new PGA tournament home) golf course.

One of the benefits of staying at Pompano Beach Club is the ability to jump in the swimming pool to cool off after a run. I took full advantage, of course. Next up was a fantastic buffet breakfast, then an email session via wi-fi in the hotel lobby. The next stop was the pool area, complete with hot tub, large pool and wading pool. While the large pool is refreshing after a run, the wading pool was the perfect temperature to soak in while playing with the kids.

To stick with the theme of not having to leave Pompano Beach Club, we ate lunch with another vacationing family poolside. While my family elected for a nap, I took the opportunity to get a little work done. After the nap, it was time for a swim in the ocean, where we spotted Jacks and other large fish in chest deep, clear blue water. After rinsing off in the pool, we hit the game room, complete with foosball, shuffle board, ping pong, pool table and arcade games. I partook in a few games of Space Invaders, Asteroids and Moon Patrol. Ooh, to be a kid again.

Before we knew it, dinner time was around the corner, so we changed and headed to the upstairs dining room, where the menu changes daily. The 5 course meal is served by some of the friendliest and professional staff I’ve encountered while on vacation. The food was stunning, from the cured salmon and cold fruit soup appetizers to the pork Wellington main course and dessert buffet. Don’t forget to order a rum Swizzle with your meal, what appears to be the Bermuda’s official vacation elixir.
