As an entrepreneur, I’m always looking for ways to grow professionally and personally. Joining EO this year was the most productive decision I’ve made in my career to help achieve this goal. This month’s Portland EO educational event was a field trip to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center to watch a live open heart surgery operation. St. Vincent has one of the most advanced cardio operating rooms in the world, and has led the industry by attracting leading talent as well. While we watched the surgery from a remote conference room (over lunch no less), Dr. Albert Starr talked us through the operation. Not just any cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Starr co-invented and implanted the first artificial heart valve back in 1960. The operating surgeon talked casually through the operation through a live feed as well, adding color and texture to the experience. It was a truly amazing experience and one that I hope to never view from the operating table.
