Aloha Angel Cafe, Hawaii: The Big Island’s Worst Possible Dining Experience

After having a handful of good meals at the Aloha Angel Cafe on Hawaii’s Big Island over the years, I was simply stunned by the horrific service I experienced awhile back. It all started when my family and I decided to celebrate a few Birthdays while on vacation. My mother made reservations a few days in advance and called to confirm prior to our special dinner. When we arrived, we waited a few minutes to be greeted, then waited another 15 minutes to be seated at our table. We waited another 15 minutes to try to order drinks, and the waiter said “no” to our request. Amazed at the brash treatment, we got up and left. The wait staff refused our requests to speak to a manager and the waiter even had the audacity to talk trash to us on the way out the door. We headed over to the Hard Rock Cafe in Kona and ended up having a wonderful dinner…with good food and service. I would rather watch my family pets slowly mutilated with a rusty spoon than eat at The Aloha Angel Cafe… which shouldn’t be able to call itself a proper establishment.

Hi Kent,
Thanks for the heads up. My wife and I are heading for Kona on October 8th.
Ron

Kent (and Ron when you get here). I live here in Kona and I think (not sure but I think) that the Aloha changed management lately. Cant confirm but I think I remember hearing that. Now, almost directly across the street is a little ‘hole in the wall’ cafe that is run by a lady that used to be the baker over at the Aloha. She has opened up a little cafe called the “Roadhouse” and we went one day for lunch. Very limited menu but super clean and that lady is fabulous. Ron, give it a try for a little lunch if your down that way, but dont try it for a big special occasion like Kent did).

Kent, I dont know if you are a resident here or were a visitor but sorry to hear that the “aloha spirit” was sure missing for you down there that night and Ron, hope you have better experiences than he did when you come here in October.

ALOHA

I find this very hard to believe, the Aloha Angel Cafe was my favorite breakfast place while staying in Hawaii. I would highly recommend going there, despite this review. My food was delicious, big portions, coffee was excellent, and most notably, the staff was always courteous.
