American Cancer Society: Where Does Your Money Go?

I received a comment today on my Relay for Life Donation Plea post. The commenter asked me if the money raised really goes to help fight cancer, and towards research. The answer is a resounding YES!
Where, exactly, does your money go? Money raised during the Relay for Life goes directly to the American Cancer Society. From their website:
“The dollars you donated and helped raise will help fund cancer research, advocacy efforts to ensure quality of care for all, educational campaigns to help prevent the disease, and patient services such as Reach to Recovery, which matches newly diagnosed cancer patients with survivors who can help them along their cancer journey.”
So basically, all monies raised goes towards:
- Research
- Advocacy
- Patient Services
- Education
Yes, it makes me/us feel good to raise the money, and do our part. But the money raised also really DOES make a difference. Fight back… be a part of contributing to the eventual eradication of this horrible family of diseases.

I know for a fact money donated to the American Cancer Society does go to helping cancer patients directly because my Mother died of lung cancer in May of 2005 and she received help from the ACS. They paid for her wigs that she got when she went bald from chemotherapy and they offered her other services as well. I am very grateful for the help the ACS offer my mother, as well as my mother-in-law who fought kidney cancer for 7 years and passed away in February 2008.

So you say the money goes to the cancer society of America, but what do they do with the money? Find a cheap new prescription drug to make billion’s of dollars in profits, that’s what. If a cure was found do you really think the the American Cancer Society would release the information? It’s fine if you or other people would like to find a cure, but they are not looking for a cure they are only researching treatments that can turn a profit, ever wonder why they call them drug “Companies”? Do you know what the only legal responsibility ANY company has? It’s to make a profit, legally. Well my friend all those drug “Companies” sure have found an excellent way to make profits. I understand if you don’t want to believe it, because almost everyone in this country is brainwashed into believing the FDA and the Drug Companies are here for the citizens. That is completely false the only reason the FDA is around is to protect the drug companies and the food industries profits. Did you know that the drug companies pay the FDA 55% of their wages? I bet you didn’t. Why do you think there is a problem with obesity? Well our foods are crap, they are loaded with artificial sweeteners and artificial preservatives. And they make people fat. But that is what the food company wants. The fatter the people the more food they will eat, thus more profits. It is legal because the FDA has complete authority to make it so. You should read “What they don’t want you to know” by Kevin Trudeau. I don’t mean to sound rude that is not my intention, I am just trying to make a point.
