Halloween

I have long enjoyed Halloween and had often dressed up when the children came to our house for Trick or Treating.  I know, I know, some of Halloween’s meaning is very, very serious stuff.  I choose to enjoy the fun of Halloween and dressing up instead.  (And I make sure my pets are in the house on All Hallow’s Eve.)

This year Joe and I headed for northwest Iowa and one of our GWRRA (Gold Wing Road Rider Association) motorcycle functions.  The Chapter in that area was hosting a chili dump and costume party. Joe put on one of his Hawaiian shirts, hung a camera around his neck and went as a tourist.  Oh, YAWN!  I choose to make my own unique costume!  I decided to blend my love of bicycling with my love of motorcycling and I become …..THE BIKER CHICK!  Now don’t go all funky on me thinking this pudgy old lady dressed up in a black leather halter top and britches.  Noooo, as you can see from my picture below, I am really a biker chick(ken) :)

I think the costume turned out not too shabby and definitely no one else had one like mine.  It is amazing what you can do with some felt, glue, a few old articles and a little imagination.  It was much more fun making the costume than buying one, chancing someone else having the same thing on.

BTW, if you have never had or been to a chili dump, you should try to host one as it makes for a great party.  It is so easy because each of your invited guests brings a quart of their favorite chili (preferably homemade) and you dump it all together in one big pot.  Boy, does it make for some awesome tasting chili.  Add a few side dishes and, voila, you have the start to a great party.
