Fall Weather

  • No Related Post

I had thoughts of writing about our Alaskan adventure today but instead woke up to an absolutely perfect fall day in Iowa. I had to share it with someone, so you’re the winner!

The house is quite right now so hearing the birds twitter outside is intensified. I can feel the breeze gently blowing through my open window. I look out the window and see the shadows of trees made from the brightly shining sun. It is so crisp outside, I could take a bite of it! I sit in my grandfather’s rocking chair just letting my senses absorb the day knowing that when I finally move, I will find joy in completing some outdoor tasks from my to-do list. I am looking forward to being outside all day cleaning, gardening and just plain reveling in the beauty of the day.

Some don’t understand why people choose to live in a state that offers four seasons, especially in the winter months. Why not live somewhere where it is sunny or temperate weather all the time? That’s not for me as I not only like the seasons but the joyous uplift I get when a jewel of a day (like today) comes along in the fall, winter, spring or summer. Those days are all the more precious. Years past I remember walking outside after a long winter into a glorious early spring day to find a robin hopping around our yard. I felt like Marie from The Sound of Music, I wanted to open my arms and twirl around and around.

Wherever you are today, do take time to enjoy some moment of it. Put it in your mouth, roll it around, taste and savor it!

We have 4 seasons in Tennessee, unfortunately, you never know which one you’re going to get on which day. Sometimes all 4 before lunch!

Now, that’s a refreshing post from the madness of the tech world. Reminded me of sunny, winter days back in the Hudson Valley.

Thanks to Chris as well for twittering your post.

We have four seasons here in Ireland … though we missed out on Summer this year. It mostly rained every day between May and August. It’s easy to predict rain here in Ireland. If you can see the mountains it means it’s gonna rain, if you can’t see them it’ already raining.

Here in FL we have 4 wonderful seasons as well… summer for 11 months, then fall, winter and spring for 10 days each :-)

Thanx Judy for reminding me to take time out of my day to just enjoy it for what it is! I live in New England and find myself taking for granted the beautiful days each unique season has to offer.

Like you, I cannot imagine living in a climate that does not offer the four seasons - even though I dread the thought of shoveling for another winter (but there’s nothing like the smell, look & feel of fresh fallen snow, especially the first of the season).

it’s crap like this that is going to cause the internet to run out of space, granny go back to knitting.

Hi, Judy and thanks for the post! I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina and even though all seasons here are nice, this time of year has always been my favorite. Between now and the end of October the uniformity of summer will give way to a diversity of color unbelievable. The air is starting to chill at night and at the higher elevations it’s becoming evident that summer has lost it’s grip on the mountains. That’s the thing here in the mountains…one can drive for a bit and be surrounded by fall color while down in the valleys the leaves are still green…you can actually watch the color creep down the mountainsides in the fall and the green creeping up in the spring.

very sweet! i like your writing. you enjoy life. after reading your blog i am feeling good. very positive. thanks! i have to come back and read your alaskan adventure.

I’m envying you your Iowa fall right now. I’m in South Carolina, and the end of this summer has been unusually hot. Right now should be some of the nicest weather of the year, with highs in the mid-70’s to low 80’s and a few nice breezes. Instead, we’re still suffering 90-degree weather and humidity.

Regardless, there are chrysanthemums on our doorstep (even though the geraniums are still blooming) and leaves are starting to change. I’m hopeful that October will bring cooler weather.

In Michigan we have 2 seasons: Winter and Road Construction. LOL

Here in Scotland and like Andrew, we seemed to miss a proper summer. Instead, we were treated to what felt like a perpetual rain storm. Now, autumn feels like it’s over with some winter chills starting to invade every nook and cranny, a stark reminder that time flies and that winter is almost upon us.

The car, previously a haven of warmth, now takes longer to warm up; its windscreen covered in a clean condensation. The house, with its heating turned off since May, is now warmed on demand - still, it means the towels are toasty warm.

We can hope for snow this year, the ski season would appreciate a covering of the white stuff. But today, leaves are still falling from the trees. The pathways benefit from a carpet of decaying leaves, the wind picks up to move the carpet from time to time.

I love your post. You seem like a very nice woman who knows what is important in life. I look forward to reading more of your thoughts. Keep ‘em coming.

I do wish though, that the picture of you was bigger. I bet a lot of the readers here would like to know what you look like. I can make out the picture that you have posted but it is so small.
Anyways, Chris has a nice mom and I am glad that you have your own blog.

Hi,
A lovely post. It is making me remember my childhood fall days in Illinois. I still sort of have 4 seasons here in Mass, but it seems to be changing. To “rb” I just want to say that if he lives long enough, someone will call him old too and perhaps more. Keep writing, we need a respite from the managed news we are force-fed daily.

Judy,

You go girl. It’s good to see someone that appreciates the simply things in life, like surround yourself in an enviroment of the physical beauty of life. We need blogs like this to remind us of these things. Some people can’t see beyond their computer monitors like rb in a previous post. I know you are proud of your son Chris, you did a marvolous job on raising such a productive and caring human.

Please keep blogin’

It’s guys like ‘rb’ , the lesser of them in the world, the better. No one asked you to read her post. and if you had to leave a stinker, why shy away from giving your name, and just hide behind initials. Do I read a guilt somewhere?
