Iraq

I know this is a little off topic, but I have a daughter(step-daughter) who works as a reporter for the Lexington Hearald-Leader, Lexington Kentucky’s largest paper. She is currently on assignment for McClatchy Company, who owns the paper. Her assignment which she volunteered for is IRAQ!
Jamie has been out of college for a couple years now and has since written for several papers and agencies.I have been somewhat in the middle on the war in Iraq myself, I believe Jamie has not, and is probably against us being there. However, as a journalist I am positive she keeps an open mind when reporting.
Although Jamie has always been not one to just sit in the newsroom and write, she had visited Cuba by the age of 21), I was a little shocked when she said she was going to Iraq. You start to look at the war a little differently when you have family involved. Watching the news and checking web reports on Iraq are quite frequent. Wondering when the next e-mail from her will come is a daily affair. Although, I did find it interesting she was talking with her sister on Instant Messenger the other day! ( here is the technology in the classroom connection…imagine if students interviewed her online in the classroom!)
I am not sure where I am going with this post, I am very proud that I know Jamie, I certainly won’t debate the war (maybe later). Jamie is gone until mid-January, I guess I’m just hoping for her safe return. Google search her name Jamie Gumbrecht and you will find her many articles or visit her current blog at :
