Is Calcium Really A Necessity?

When humans and other mammals are born, they get calcium from their mothers milk. Humans have been drinking milk for years and recently (maybe the past 50 years) “nutritionists” have been telling us to drink more and more milk! I think milk is great, it has a lot of essential nutrients for us humans, but i don’t think we need to be drinking a couple cups a day to “maintain” or “increase” the strength of our bones.
Think about it, do other mammals eat calcium after they mature and can eat on their own? You don’t see Deer or birds drinking milk, although some animals do eat tiny bits of calcium. Squirrels and mice for example sometimes nibble on deer antlers that have fallen off. They could be getting calcium, or they could be wearing down their teeth. I don’t we are any different, if you didn’t drink much milk i think your bones would be perfectly fine! Big companies are just money hungry and use fancy scientific terms and scare people to get people to buy their product!

I am comparing us to other mammals. There are no other mammals that i know of that supplement calcium. Osteoporosis is also a disease if im not mistaken, its not because they didn’t consume enough calcium.

Interesting, I am not a milk fan, so I mean, I would probably take a supplement, but I mean calcium is just like anything else that we do to “prevent” things from happening. Some people don’t spoke and still get lung cancer. Some people eat healthy and still get cancer period, it depends on how much risk we are willing to take.

That’s a very good point, jifester!
I’m an older person and I rarely drink milk, nor do I take a calcium supplement and I don’t have frail or brittle bones and have most of my teeth!
I’m certain animals are totally smarter than we are about “natural” things!
