New York Personal Computer Users Group (NYPC)

At a time when personal computers were new, expensive, and downright confusing with names like DOS, BASIC and Dot Matrix, help was needed in operating these new new machines that some believe came from outer-space. Hence, computer “user groups” became popular and sharing information about spreadsheets, word processing, and even games became the social venue after a days work. Unfortunately, groups like these started to fade now that nearly everyone you can think of owns their own computer and schools teach how to use them.

There’s one group that serves the New York Metropolitan area (NYC) and still teaches mainstream computing techniques in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other popular venues in digital photography and Adobe Photoshop Elements and more. The New York Personal computer Users Group has taught virtually all areas of computing and hardware since the advent of PC’s in 1981. And Bill Gates was once a guest speaker in its heyday. If you would like to join or be part of their general monthly meeting you can find more information about upcoming classes, sign up for their monthly newsletter or stop by and network especially if you’re looking to strengthen your computer skills for that next job.
