Rename Multiple Windows XP Files and Photos in Two Steps

Has that digital revolution got you down? Too many files and no time to rename them all. With the deluge of multiple files in Windows Explorer from your digital camera and camcorder; how prey tell do you keep track of them all? I like my files organized, everything in its folder and everything in its place. It would be nice if we could rename all those photographic files with numbers easily and efficiently, but hitting [F2] on your keyboard has certain limitations. Here’s a better way. Open Windows Explorer. From the Start Menu:

Start>All Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer

Choose any folder — I will use the Picture Folder in the My Documents folder within Windows Explorer. That’s the space that usually has many unnamed files on my computer.

To select all the files in a particular folder press Ctrl+A.

1. Rename the first picture file with a name that is consistent with the folder. (To Rename a file, Right-Click the first file with your mouse or, press F2)

2. Press Enter

That’s it. Your Done!

Renaming files was that easy. You’ll see each file is renamed and numbered according to the name you given your list of files.
