Ipod Touch Better than the iPhone?

The iPhone is the new phone to have. If you look at random Twitter comments, you will see that a good number of people want the iPhone. However, with the release of the Apple App Store, some of those people are thinking that the iPod Touch is good enough and that people should go for something other than the iPhone.
Back in June 2007, I couldn’t convince my wife that checking my email in grocery lines was worth $1,320-the cost of an original iPhone and one year of the cheapest plan. These days, the trend-setting phone costs even more money over its life, and it’s more than a little restrictive and even a bit buggy. So I’m amazed at how little love the iPod touch gets. It’s a slimmer iPhone with almost all its features, it requires no contract, and when you can’t get a Wi-Fi signal, your plain, humble cellphone can step up to take its place.

As an owner of an iPod Touch, I can say that it has a lot of capabilities; even though I am not a huge fan of the iPod itself. Don’t get me wrong, it is a great piece of technology; it can just be a pain to type on sometimes. As long as you are near a wifi signal, the iPod Touch beats any smart phone when it comes to internet browsing. You can even use the iPod touch as a universal remote control within a wifi house. When you are not around a wifi signal, the iPod Touch does not become completely useless. You can easily watch movies and listen to music.
My suggestion: get an iPod Touch if you are a huge fan of music and movies. The large screen makes watching movies so much more enjoyable. Avoid the iPhone 3G, it has a lot of bugs and I have heard nothing but complaints about the quality of the product. If you are looking for a great internet enables smart phone; look towards RIM Blackberries. They are small, portable and open sourced; you don’t have to pay for all of the apps to you want (some developers charge though).
Comments welcome.

I bought the iPod Touch to compliment my crappy phone. Also being in college I cannot afford the price of the iphone contract in fact I have to use pay as you go.
The iPod Touch is a wonderful PDA and an ok mp3 player.
I am also surprised that no one really talks about the iPod Touch.

I think the iPod Touch is a wonderful device, and since the large screen is prone to getting smudged, one should keep away from the iPhone, if all one is looking at is a PMP + Email / Web Browsing device. Though if Apple would have addeda Microphone on the iPod Touch (even through a Headset), we would have seen a skype or a Sip phone for the iPod Touch, and thus replacing the need of an iPhone all together.
