PinGoat - Where have you gone?

Pingoat.com, a free service that pings various blog websites when your blog is updated, has been offline for almost a week now. If you go to their website you will be greeted with a canned message explaining that they are doing some maintenance. For the maintenance to last over a week must mean that they are having some sort of large problem.
With PinGoat being down, I have not been able to ping my blog with other services. I guess I could go to individual websites and update them; however that is a huge pain. I am on the lazy side, especially since it is finals week, so I do not want to go out and locate a new pinging service.
Do you know of any decent websites that ping blogging sites when your website is updated? I know WordPress notifies a few locations, but that does not seem to produce many results. Do you think that pinging services such as PinGoat are actually useful? In other words, do they supply traffic to the smaller blogs?
Comments welcome,
Justin

I too have been waiting for Pingoat to come back online - until I found your post. You’ve been waiting longer than I have so it’s not a good sign.
Before Pingoat I used Ping-o-matic, it’s similar to Pingoat but doesn’t have quite the same reach but it’s better than nothing:

Pingoat was my favorite, and I hope it does return. In the meantime I have been using http://autopinger.com

Same here. I’ve been using autopinger and ping-o-matic.
Pingoat seems to be getting very problematic lately, which is a real shame.

I have the same question. I have yet to find an alternative I like as much as Pingoat. I guess Autopinger will have to do.

Hi
I also use pingoat, my blog is new so i can’t really say if the traffic i get has much to do with the pings, because i usually submit manually to many social media or social bookmarking sites, i don’t know if that is one the things that is done by a ping service. I think that having a wordpress blog ping-o-matic pings it automatically, so while the pingoat is down i haven’t been using anything else.

I’ve been waiting for over about a month, too - fortunately, there are a lot of other alternatives - though I do miss this one.
Aside from the message you get at their site announcing maintenance, the other parts of the site are completely gone.
This can’t be good.

I too have missed pingoat as of recently and glad to see some feedback for other services.

Pingoat is now totally out… Web site doesn’t answer and the browser returns an error (site is not found) ! That’s the end… hoping not.
I used also Ping-O-Matic but since about the same time of pingoat problems, the site always returns an “out of time” error.
This is a sad situation because there are not a lot of services like these ones. This is strange, they are billions of blogs, and just one or two serious ping services…
If someone find an alternative, feel free to give the solution !

Autopinger was my second choice too. Now that’s gone. Suppose one can still use Feedshark, but it doesn’t have the same reach. Wonder what happened to Pingoat and Autopinger.

PINGOAT was the first to go down then AUTOPINGER i just hope that maybe they have or will join under one huge PINGING SERVICE maybe they have been bought over or maybe that some of the more official blogging search engines shut them down? . This has been catasrophic for me . I just hope that when and if they return that they are still FREE SERVICES!!! . Well done for highlighting this topic as i havnt seen any other comments or views on this important subject . CUDOS!!! .

Autopinger and pingoat were my two favourite ping services. While they are down I have been using http://pingates.com .
It has some duplicates (for example pinging pingomatic and then pinging some of the services pingomatic already pings), but is better than nothing as it pings a few more services than just pingomatic by itself.

As of today, July 26, I used Feed Shark - that was the only one that would work. Autopinger was down, pingoat is still doing maintenance, ping-o-matic told me I had just submitted the blog. Hope we hear something soon.

Yes, it is sad that that the pingoat died and that pingo-matic usually malfunctions, but have you noticed any actual difference in viewers?
I haven’t.
On days when pingo-matic has malfunctioned, I often have higher numbers of blog readers. It seems they have outlived their usefulness, especially for blogs that are updated daily anyway.
Those sites that list blogs, which pinged them, don’t seem to be used much by serious blog readers. If you visit some of them, you’ll see why.
It might be time to stop the silly habit of sending pings and instead think of a new service, which will actually make a difference in the number of viewers.
Have FUN!

Aye, it was a dark day indeed for bloggers and internet marketers across the globe when Pingoat kicked the bucket. You’d think they could at least have put an explanation beyond, ‘Down for Maintenance’ or whatever it said.
Pingomatic is a poor Plan B to the wondrous Pingoat, but I’ve just started using Pingate and I like it so far…although it doesn’t let you put in your RSS.
Here’s to hoping for the return of our beloved Pingoat!

I just recently learned of the benefits of pingoat so I appreciate the helpful comments on this blog. Where there is a huge demand there will be somebody to fill the void. Hopefully it wont be another subscription site.

Forgot to mention…try:
http://feedshark.branbliss.com
and
Google “submit em now” for a firefox toolbar that is pretty powerful.

I think using Pingoat is a bad idea anyways and here’s why…
Pingoat is notorious for labeling legitimate blogs as “spam”, right? When Pingoat labels a blog as spam, it adds this blog to a large database of spam blogs (or splogs).
A variety of sites use Pingoat’s database of “spam blogs” to determine the authenticity of a particular blog whether it be for registration, comment systems, etc.
So in other words, if Pingoat decides that my blog is spam, my blog is added to the list of “bad blogs”? I certainly wouldn’t want to risk the possibility of flushing my blog’s reputation down the drain.
There are so many other ping services to use - it’s not worth it!

Found your site by googling what happened to Pingoat.
You can also use Blog Explosion though you have to join. It is free, and I used it for years before I found Pingoat.
And of course, there is always Evil Technorati…

As a new blogger i have only just have found out about Pingoat and was devestated when i came accross this post . I know you have Autopinger and Icerocket but from what i hear Pingoat was by far the best . Even if the rumours are true that Pingoat is returning i doubt if it will be as good as it was in its prime from what i hear . Great work for educating a new blogger on the demise of Pingoat . Thanks for your info and your help .

That’s it! I’m done with Pingoat. This is the second time (to my knowledge) that Pingoat has inexplicably become unavailable and greeted us with that one-line maintainance message for weeks on end. I’ll Pingates http://pingates.com) and see what happens. Anyone care to join me?

I believe that Pingoat is gone for some time, but hopefully not forever.
I’ve tried to cover this issue myself, titling my opinion as “Pingoat, gone to the slaughter house?”
I thought it was a pretty nifty title!

I had given up on them.

Is pingoat definitely gone now?
When accessing pingoat.com there is now a page with ads of one of those expired domain grabbers coming up.

This is actually very weird because I was able to use pingoat two days ago with no issues, the website was up & running. Today suddenly they have the page that you would get when a domain is abandoned by the original register and up for grabs.
I use http://pingates.com/ now

Hi, I use pingler.com, seems to be working fine. And one can edit the list of services it pings. This is an advantage since pinging to non-related services can be seo destructive.
