Will your body be on display after you pass?

One of the most spectacular anatomy exhibits that I have ever seen in my life has been the Body Worlds exhibit in Phoenix Arizona.  Body Worlds is an exhibit that shows real humans, who have been preserved through a process called plastination.  Each exhibit showcases different muscles and organs of the body.  Besides anatomy, the exhibit shows the differences between alcoholic and normal livers; smokers lungs compared to a normal lung and so forth.

[Gunther von Hagens] spent the next few years popularizing and refining the process, which replaces bodily fluids and fat with plastic, earning equal shares of admiration and infamy.

In 1993, von Hagens founded the Institute for Plastination in Heidelberg, Germany, a research center that performs plastination and manages the Body Worlds exhibits.

While the exhibit is not for everyone, it is a very educational experience.  It is a little startling to realize that the ’statues’ you are observing were once real live humans.  The detail is extraordinary, as it is the human body it its most exact form.  If anatomy interests you, find a Body Worlds Exhibit near you.

Does the process appeal to you?  Is it something you would consider as a means of educating people after your death?  Does this process go against everything you believe in?

I realize this discussion can (and might) get a little heated.  I remind you to state your opinions and discuss, but please do not attack my opinions or the opinions of others who may comment.

When I was little I cut my finger pretty deeply. I passed out.
I’m thinking this exhibit might not make it for me :)

=)

It is such an interesting exhibit though. Takes awhile to get used to though.

A good friend of mine asked me last summer what I wanted to do for my birthday? I told her I wanted to see the Body show that was hear in San Diego. She really did not want to go, but did it for me. After the show she thanked me for picking the show, for she finally really understood the problems her parents are having. Her mother recently passed away of Alzheimer, and at the show we both saw a cut away of a person that had passed away from it. They had a normal brain right next to the Alzheimer and what a difference. In the Alzheimer brain the whole center of the brain looked like it had just burned up. I recommend that everyone go for it is both educational and beautifully artistic at the same time.

Also, did not see a drop of blood during the whole show.
