Firefox 3.0 Easter Eggs - Your HowTo Guide to the Unknown

Have you downloaded Firefox 3.0 yet?  If you haven’t you are missing out on some pretty nifty features.  Firefox 3.0 takes a new approach to web browsing; the program is deisgned to make things easier for you.  Here are a few Easter eggs to improve or remove the things you do not like.

The very first thing you notice in Firefox 3 is its extra large Back button. While it’s actually quite handy-less chance of missing your target!-if the Back button’s just too big for your tastes, it’s as easy as pie to reduce. Just right-click on Firefox’s toolbar, and choose Customize. In the dialog box, select “Use small icons.”

This is a nifty feature, especially for those of you who like to reduce the amount of clutter you see on your screen.  The big icon, however, does not bother me.

While the Smart Location bar is quite intelligent, if you enter an incorrect URL-say, to a page that doesn’t exist-Firefox 3 will still remember it and suggest it again later. (Garbage in, garbage out, as they say.) To remove a mistyped URL from your suggestion list forever, key down to the suggestion and type Shift+Delete.

The new smart URL box is definately smart, because it learns from your mistakes and commonly visted websites.  However, If you make a legit mistake, it will remember what you did.  The above tip is a great thing to put on a sticky note and save for later.  You never know when you will need to tell Firefox to never remember something.  Don’t like the new smart url box?  Download an addon to bring back the old one line version.

There are other great Easter eggs for Firefox 3.0, I listed a few of my favorites.  You can do some other wonderful things such has setting gmail as your default email client, without an add on; play with spell check features and mac users can get favicons on their bookmark toolbar.  Don’t forget about the robots; type about:robots in your browser today!

Shame your article’s title is misleadingly wrong - these are tips, not Easter Eggs!

An Easter Egg is a hidden feature like when you type “about:robots” into the Address Bar and press Enter - it does not “…improve or remove the things you do not like.”
