Blogger Training?

A lot of bloggers do not have a professional background when it comes to writing. Most of us are experts (or students) from different fields; writing about topics that interest us. As a blogger, have you ever thought about the difference between presenting an opinion and news?

That is the big key when it comes to having a successful blog that retains readers — your opinion. I can find the same news story on tons of different websites, however each has a different viewpoint on how the news occurred. This is what makes news interesting. At the same time, that is how a blogger makes an interesting post — present the news, but add your opinion to it. Non-professional writers are turning to the professionals for advice on this very subject — and the writers are responding with what I call Blogging Bootcamp.

About a dozen would-be reporters navigated the basics of journalism at a recent training offered by the Society of Professional Journalists in Chicago. The group plans similar seminars this month in Greensboro, N.C., and Los Angeles.

Lechuga, who didn’t attend the training, said it would have been a good idea. Having jumped into the world of online publishing with a finance degree, he said the claims against him - which are still pending - arose from a question of semantics, and he would have chose his words differently if he had a second chance.

I have found Chris’ topics on how to successfully blog to be very helpful and interesting — and I consider that to be a basic bootcamp for blogging. What do you think, would you go to a Blogging Bootcamp to learn how to become a better blogger?

I totally did not read anything above this comment box. The only thing I am thinking about right now is should I give my email out… great, I am just going more junk email than I get already. I am sitting at home wishing I could sit on my computer and write in comment boxes all day. Would I get sick of that if I got paid to blog? Would I get sick of the questions? I don’t know, but would get sick of sitting around in my boxers all day, hell no. somebody want to pay me? Will someone take time to read this? If you are that one person, go run to your supervisor and tell him to hire this guy. I am not going to hold my breath, but I will keep an ear turned… yah, that’s good.

I think it is necessary for there to be some form of education when it comes to blogging. Yes anyone can start a blog, but does anyone want to read that blog? I am currently trying to figure out what my blog should be about; which I do not believe most people know when they first get into the whole blogging thing.

I’m going to the citizen journalism academy given by the SPJ. Do I think bloggers should learn some of the skills and ethics of professional writers? Well, it couldn’t hurt.

Especially when it comes to accurate finding and sharing factual information. But blogging has its own syntax, it own way of sharing information with our respective communities. Both sides can share the best of what we have to offer.

I’m attending so that I can learn more about Media Law and how to interview better when I restart videoblogging. later this summer.
