AT&T, T-Mobile and Starbucks Coffee

For as long as I can remember, Starbucks Coffee has had T-Mobile hot spots in almost every store. While it allows them to have an available internet connection — it also comes at a cost. Unless, of course, you are a T-Mobile customer. A few months ago, the coffee corporation started rolling out a new plan, with AT&T. This new plan would allow customers two free hours of Wi-Fi per registered Starbucks Coffee gift card (per day).

The concept is a great idea, it allows customers to finally log onto the internet for free, while still getting that ‘coffee shop’ feeling. However, T-Mobile and its customers are not happy. Some T-Mobile customers have unlimited hotspot access, including Starbucks Coffee locations. What are they to do?

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O), AT&T Inc (T.N) and T-Mobile (DTEGn.DE) have reached a deal to resolve T-Mobile’s claim that the coffee chain secretly colluded with AT&T to offer free Wi-Fi Internet access in its cafes despite an exclusive agreement with T-Mobile, Starbucks said in a statement on Wednesday.

Currently it is not known whether both hotspot companies will be able to put wi-fi locations in Starbucks Coffee locations; or if T-Mobile customers will be able to use AT&T hot spots for free.

Either way, I am looking forward to my free wi-fi.
