“LOS ANGELES — Nicolas Cage followed his secret treasure map to another fortune at movie theaters.Cage’s “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” the Disney sequel to its 2004 hit, opened as the weekend’s No. 1 movie with $45.5 million as Hollywood continued a holiday spree at the box office, according to studio estimates Sunday. With Cage reprising his role as a history buff on the hunt for a vanished fortune, the “National Treasure” sequel outdid the original, which debuted with $35.1 million on its way to a $173 million total.” (Link)
I saw this movie yesterday, and if I had to comment on the film in one word it would be “fantastic”. Most sequels are sub-par and do not hold up to the original film. In this case, National Treasure: Book of Secrets could have stood alone as the original film. The sequel was as good, if not better than the original. It had some similarities to the original and kept the same cast.
If you are going to see a movie with the family this week — this is the one to see. There is action, drama and some comedy. Not too much violence. Just a few fight scenes here and there. No blood either.
Five stars from me.

I also saw the film National Treasures: Book of Secrets yesterday. If I chose one word to describe the film it would be Entertaining. But it is not a great film. If you liked the original film, then you will like this one too, because it is just more of the same. A series of implausible clues and improbable resolutions. Entertaining but not thought provoking. The characters and plot are removed from the real world.
