I woke up yesterday and noticed that my old HP laptop had left the repair center, and was in route to my apartment. My case manager told me that they were going to hold my old laptop at the repair center until I get my new replacement laptop.
I was not home when Fed Ex attempted a delivery. They will try again tomorrow. After four or five phone calls to my case manager, he called me back. Turns out someone messed up again. HP is sending me shipping labels so I can Fed Ex my old laptop back to HP. Here is what I am expecting from HP in the next few days:
- Old HP Laptop
- Upgrade to Vista Business (since they messed up and put my Home Premium on my new laptop_
- Shipping labels for the old laptop
- New laptop (should leave China on Wednesday). Expected delivery is Friday or Monday. I guess Monday.
When will it end? At least I am getting a new laptop out of this painstaking issue.

Not having read all your installments, I wonder why you would want Business instead of Home Premium - that is after wondering why you don’t want to upgrade to XP.
After hearing about many people’s difficulties, and seeing, and working on many laptops, it surprises me that not one company is breaking out of the mold and specifying a stand for laptop layouts, so that interchangeable parts could be used, and many levels of difficulty could be removed from the problem.
Laptops in general are one of those things that we should all be amazed for every day they work, as the build quality sucks in general, all in the name of being lightweight. If the girly-men of the world would bulk up, the build quality of a 12 lb laptop could be pretty decent and offer a modicum of reliability.
