‘“A fight broke out between two of the juveniles and caused a large crowd to assemble… as I’m sure you can see on your video,” said Sergeant Larry King of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

“They gave lawful commands for these two to stop fighting. They wouldn’t stop fighting so they had to be brought under control,” said Schall.

Once the tasers came out, the show was over and the crowd headed for the parking lot.

“It dispersed the fight, ended the fight, and of course brought the crowd into compliance too, so they calmed down,” said King.‘ (Link)

With the recent tasering of a Utah citizen by a highway patrol officer, the use of tasers has been put into question. This is a situation where I think the use of a taser was justified. While the two that were tasered were minors, I feel that this was the right thing to do. By tasering the suspects who were primarily involved in the fight, the officers were able to get the situation under control.

In this situation, there was a strong threat to everyone. Unlike the event a few weeks back, these police officers gave strong warnings to attempt to gain control of the situation before jumping directly to their tasers.
