“Activision and Blizzard have said they will form “the world’s most profitable games business” in a deal worth $18.8bn (£9.15bn). US-based Activision also makes hit console games such as the Tony Hawk series and Guitar Hero.
Nine million people pay a monthly subscription to play World of Warcraft.” (Link)
What a smart idea. If you go to any high school or college in the nation, chances are that a good number of “kids” will have either a game from Blizzard or Activision in their homes. I am no exception, I have both World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero in my apartment.
World of Warcraft is the third or fourth MMORPG that I have played. It is good for people who do not have the time to spend 40 hours per week playing a computer game. It offers content for casual and hardcore gamers alike. Blizzard is also currently developing StarCraft 2, which is highly anticipated.
Guitar Hero is another game that is sweeping the nation. It is becoming a huge hit. Back in “the day”, DDR or Dance Dance Revolution was the hit game. Guitar Hero follows the game concept, except instead of dancing, you press buttons on the guitar to play your music.
Both games are enjoyable (although WoW requires a monthly fee). Activision and Blizzard could not have done a smarter thing. By merging they are increasing their profits, and I am sure that both companies will be able to bring something to the table of each game.
