Carter Breaches Entrance to Tutankhamun’s Tomb (1922)

When Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon entered the tomb of the Egyptian King Tutankhamun, they were the first people to do so in 3,000 years. The tomb was then the best preserved and most intact pharaonic tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings. In order to remove King Tut’s jewelry and amulets, Carter’s team dissected the mummy, severing the ancient king’s arms, legs, and head in the process. Later, the deaths of several of Carter’s team members invited speculation about what ancient curse?” (link)

With the recent news about King Tutankhamun’s race finally being on display in Egypt, I thought this “Today in History” was fairly interesting.  King Tut was the son of Amenhotep III, and as the next of kin, he became king when Amenhotep III died.  There are many suspicions as to why King Tut died so young, but to dive into those, you’ll need to take a class on Ancient Egypt (link to my previous article).
