“Lincoln Delivers Gettysburg Address (1863)

The Gettysburg Address, one of the most quoted speeches in US history, was delivered by President Lincoln at the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, four and half months after the famous battle fought there. Lincoln’s three-minute address redefined the American Civil War as not merely a struggle for the Union, but also as “a new birth of freedom” for the US and its people.” (Link)

The exact wording of the address is unknown, as there are five different manuscripts that exist today.  Each has a slightly different time line of how things were said, and what was said.  This goes to show how two different people can hear completely different things out one person.

This is a short entry, but I think it is always good to remember the things from our past, and try to think how they have influenced our culture today.
