“ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) — On the popular parenting Web site urbanbaby.com, a writer asks whether it’s OK to give an 18-month-old “a tiny bit of Robitussin” for her “cold/cough and fever.”…Over-the-counter cough and cold medications for a child under 6 goes against the advice of the Food and Drug Administration — and apparently that of many fellow parents on the Internet. These medications have been blamed for more than 100 deaths and at least thousands of trips to the emergency room.” (Link)
Medications have warning labels for a reason. They are not a suggestion, they are tested and approved directions (usually by the FDA). I cannot understand why people would give their young child medicine when it is not specifically for them. Just because it helps you does not mean that it is good for your child.
Use common sense, and you can help your infant get over the common cold rather quickly. The above article has some alternatives to over the counter drugs.
